This powder just doesn’t look quite right on me. In theory, this should be an excellent powder. They just recently brought out a medium-deep shade, so if you have darker skin and think this would look ashy on you, you’re in luck! The beige color helps minimize flashback, along with the ingredient list (I’ll make a separate post about what to look for ingredient-wise – keep your eyes peeled this Sunday). The Laura Mercier Powder is translucent, but as you can see it does have a beige tone to it. On the right there’s the Laura Mercier Powder, no flashback. You see the white cast in the left of the picture? That’s what the NYX Studio Finishing Powder ($10). If you’ve ever used one of those pure white loose mineral powders, you know what those can look like in flash photography. For me the biggest draw was that it had absolutely zero flashback in photographs. A lot of people say they like it for oil control, or for setting under eye concealer. It sticks and creates a super smooth surface on the skin. It’s one of those powders were if you dip your fingers into it and rub them together, the powder doesn’t totally go away. Okay, let’s start by talking about how Laura Mercier came to be the go-to brand of loose powder. Before we continue, keep in mind that this is just my personal experience with this powder! If you love this powder and this is your holy grail, I’m glad! It must work for a lot of people if it’s so popular! But for this combination-skin girl, it was less than ideal. This $38 loose powder, the holy grail of so many makeup lovers scores just “meh” in my book. After trying it for several months I think I’m finally ready to give my verdict on this product. During the Sephora VIB Sale last November I picked up a jar of this powder along with the Laura Mercier Velour Puff ($15). It feels like I can’t go on YouTube without someone mentioning the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder ($38). I use the Secret Brightening Powder strictly under my eyes, but the Translucent Loose Setting powder I will use on the face and also under the eyes when it's just kind of a blah day and I don't need that extra coverage and oomph for my under eyes.Hey everyone! Today I wanted to talk about a big-ticket item that a lot of beauty gurus rely on as a staple product in their collection. Hollaaa! The powder is super silky and it just feels nice and luxurious when I apply it. I find it really leaves my face looking flawless and I don't look ever look greasy by the end of the day like I used to. The Translucent Loose Setting Powder is the only powder I've been using for the past few months to set my entire face, and I don't find myself stopping anytime soon. There are teeny tiny flecks of shimmer in the powder, which I'll be honest, threw me off at first, but now I really appreciate it since I can see how it helps add to the illuminating and diffusing quality. I also find it really does help brighten and diminish the look of my very dark circles. I will admit - there is very slight creasing at the end of the day (because I have lots of fine lines under my eyes - sigh) but this does as good of a job as it possibly can. The Secret Brightening Powder has been the only powder I've found (so far) that really prevents creasing under my eyes while also brightening the area up.
